ROUBLES finished fifth in the 3.20 at Doncaster, a Class 5 Fillies’ Stakes over 6f, on Friday 28 April. Roubles jumped out of the stalls well under George Wood (5) and was pretty keen down the middle of the course from her outside draw. George settled her midfield and she made ground halfway through the race, until she was outpaced inside the final furlong. The first three drew clear, with Roubles not that far behind in fifth place, beaten 7¼ lengths at odds of 8/1, behind the winner, Harbour Grey.
James Fanshawe reported after the race that he was pleased with the run from Roubles, and he is hopeful that there is more improvement left in her, as she will have learned so much in this race. James thinks she could drop back to 5f to help Roubles settle, but he will see how she is in her work before making a decision.
Our view: This was a very pleasing effort, as the first four home had all been placed in their previous races and had already demonstrated some talent on the racecourse, plus Roubles is very likely to improve on this run in future.
