New home for Sound Investment

Happy retirement to my first Owners Group horse Sound Investment

He’s been a fabulous horse to be involved  in  winning some big races, sadly he picked up a leg injury in December 2015 which has again recurred  and as he is  almost 10 years old now is the right time to retire whilst he’s young enough to retrain as a riding//companion horse..

Thanks for the memories boy……………

Harry Derham: Talking Alcala

Sporting Judgement

National Hunt trainer Paul Nicholls has saddled some big names in his time, with the likes of Kauto Star, Deman and Big Bucks helping the Somerset handler to ten trainer’s titles.

The horse that I own a share in, Alcala, can’t quite claim to match those racing greats just yet, but he can certainly put his name down as the flag bearer for Team Ditcheat over the summer.

Five victories on the spin included an impressive success in the Listed Summer Plate at Market Rasen, moving his record to six wins from his last eights starts since winning for the first time over fences at Ludlow in April.

It would appear that this talented 7yo has plenty more to give, so with the National Hunt season just about to spring into life,  I had the great honour of catching up with the assistant trainer at Ditcheat, Harry Derham, to…

Big Day On The Cards For Alcala

Sporting Judgement

It’s a hot little affair that has been won down the years by the likes of Cue Card and has also had last year’s Gold Cup third Native River in the places just a few years ago.

This time around, Alcala lines…

Alcala’s Famous Five

Sporting Judgement

The likes of Kauto Star, Denman and Big Buck’s are just some of the names that have landed five wins in a row under Paul Nicholls.

It’s a feat that is far from an easy one to achieve, and although Alcala might not be the best horse the 10-time champion handler has ever trained, he’s certainly moved up the pecking order after landing a famous five of his own.

Regular readers of my blog will know all about my association with Alcala by now, and if you don’t, have a flick through my blogs over the past 12 months and you’ll soon see.

Big thanks to Jake (@JakePriceTips) for allowing me to use his picture of Alcala as my main image. Be sure to give him a follow on Twitter.

I’ve always wanted to be involved in owning racehorses, much more than I have ever wanted to bet on…
